2008 Success Stories

Red
11/21/08 - Red, the 7 yr old beagle, has been adopted to a wonderful family in Santa Maria – they have 2 other female beagles, and a 7 yr old son – and it looks like a great match!!
Thanks Shawn so much for fostering him!!
Deb

UPDATE

Jake
11/18/08 - Here’s a picture of Jake – the 10 yr old lab mix we placed a couple of weeks ago! No more 20x20’ kennel run for him!

Stella
11/14/08 - I took Stella to her new home last Friday! The family called with an update and said they are totally dedicated to her – they have renamed her Lucy (she obviously doesn’t care because she can’t hear them).

UPDATE
11/14/08 - Jake – 10 yr old lab X who had been in a kennel run and hadn’t been around other dogs for over 5 years! He is now on a ranch in Santa Barbara , and getting slowing introduced to his family pack of 2 other dogs. He was aggressive with them at first, but is coming around! Lots of tail wagging going on! He enjoyed his (what we believe) first trip to the beach off leash. He LOVED it and was very responsive and obedient. John and Terra have been patient and loving while he’s introduced into a whole new world. Looks like it’s going to work out fine!

Teddy
11/14/08 - Thanks to Dave Baptista for fostering Teddy! A couple who live at Vandenberg AF base saw Teddy in Easy Ad – went to meet him on Sunday – came back on Wednesday and officially adopted her. Dave gave them every bit of information he knew about Teddy – and they were still willing to adopt him (I don’t mean to make that sound like Teddy was a “bad” dog, just a needy dog who had to go to a home with some patience).

Jake
10/30/08 - Jake (our senior lab X) went to his new home in Santa Inez last night. When he came to our house last night, it was obvious he wasn’t housetrained. But he has a wonderful spirit, friendly/social, and except for a fatty tumor, he appears to be very healthy and energetic for a 10 year old. The owner told me Jake had never been allowed in the house, except for ONE TIME!!! That will definitely change, and Jake’s adopter was not concerned. His other dogs will show him the ropes, and he’ll have beds to sleep on inside (if he so chooses. Interesting that some dogs who have been outside dogs only sometimes prefer that – but we’ll see). Hurray for our senior dog!

10/30/08 - Jack – 2 yr old Papillon mix – you didn’t see him on your radar – he was fostered my Julianna and adopted quickly.

Sasha
10/22/08 - Sasha just went to her new home! I have been fostering her for 4 months looking for the right home. I am so glad that we can be there for animals like her that would have fallen through the cracks elsewhere . Being 10 years old and needing to be an indoor only cat in a world with thousands of cats and kittens that need homes is usually the end for most. Her adopters saw a flyer that someone put up at the farm supply in San Luis Obispo . Please pass on my thanks to everyone that helps get the word out. That’s one more success!!

Chiquita & Toffer
10/1/08 adoptions - Pippin, Chiquita, and Toffer.

9/10/08 - Hogan - the beautiful American Bulldog, has found a great home with a loving family. Because they have a 4 year old, and a baby on the way, we thought it prudent to have a temperament test. Grier, and the adoptive mom, took Hogan to see Cheri Lucas last week for a temperament/behavioral consultation, and Cheri couldn’t say enough good things about this big boy!. He’s going to his new home this Saturday.

9/1/08 - Holly – you never “met” Holly, but she is a cairn terrier X, Juliana pulled from Animal Services when they were crowded, and she has been adopted to a great family, and should be going to her new home after she has been spayed.

Bella
8/25/08 - Bella – 5 yr old Aussie ( Sandye King (border collie rescuer) found a great home for Bella

Suzie
Update on Suzie 8/25/08

Picked up "Suzie" today from a very nice family who are moving into a place where they can't take her. She is very shy and much shyer than Lily so we have started calling her Shyer. May or may not stick. We had an easy trip home and even stopped at an In & Out and ate in the car without a slobber or beg from Shyer. Used the grass and came on home. She and Lily appear compatible in that they completely ignore each other. She is now in the position you see in the picture except completely prone and slowly relaxing. We understand that she started her life 5 years ago to be a show dog, but her shyness and fears prevented a successful training. Even though she is very new to us, her temperament appears to be suited to our retired pace. I have really missed Chewy and feel that Shyer will happily join me on our walks, beaching, and camping trips.Thought I would share my excitement with you........
Bill Sylvester
8/13/08 - Suzie, the 5 yr old yellow lab, was adopted yesterday. A wonderful family from Santa Barbara (on 3 fenced acres) came up with their other dog, spent a good amount of time with her, and took her home!!! All’s well in Suzie’s world!

Boomer
7/15/08 - Boomer adopted.
Hi Deborah,
I wanted to tell you that Boomer has a new home! Peter, the man you had contact me, and his wife took him. Thank you for all of your help...
Ed

Jaycee & Meeko
6/29/08 - Jaycee & Meeko (the senior german shorthaired pointers) went to a new home yesterday!!!!

6/18/08 - Buff a 5 yr old lab. A woman had taken him in when the owner died, but had 3 dogs of her own. He went to the “Foster Pack” – they have a female lab and it was love at first sight!

Roxy
6/18/08 - Roxy – she’s been in foster with Juliana for months!!! I think she’s finally found the perfect home (again) – with a JRT to play with!

Nemo
6/18/08 - Nemo a rottie has found a home with a knowledgable rottie gentleman in Santa Maria who has an 8 yr old female rottie

Yoshi
6/18/08 - At the last minute, before he was going to Woods, we found a wonderful home for him. Woman had a pom who recently died of a heart attack, so she was so very happy to find Yoshi

Scooby
6/18/08 - Scooby is going to his new home this morning .

Coyote & Buddy
6/18/08 - This is a long awaited thank you; I just wanted to send on behalf of myself and my husband and our two ”children” Buddy and Coyote. We adopted both Buddy and Coyote from you about 4 years ago. We got Coyote first, a deaf Queensland Healer, from your volunteer Kathi Chapman, and fell in love with her. While she is our “problem child” she is the smartest and most affectionate dog we’ve ever had, she’s just a little mischievous. Then a few months later Kathi told us about Buddy, another Queensland healer who had already had two homes and had a serious case of separation anxiety. We were only going to keep him until you could find a home for him, but we fell in love with him, as did Coyote, and he’s been our little man ever since. They go everywhere with us, and are one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. I just think what you guys do is wonderful and I wanted to thank you and your volunteers for taking time out of your lives to connect these great animals with needy owners such as ourselves. We don’t know where we’d be with out them!!
Heather Cargill

Ozzie
6/11/08 - Ozzie was adopted. Here is a word from his new owner, Randy:
When I brought him home, he checked out the backyard and then we played ball for 30 minutes. He’s so smart and well trained; I can’t thank you enough for hooking my wife and I up with this wonderful animal. Rest assure he will receive plenty of attention and love. I have your email address, so I’ll keep you updated on his progress adapting to his new environment. You’re always welcome to stop by, give me a call or email to check on his progress.
Randy

Youk
6/8/08 - Youk Adopted. A young woman, who lives with her grandma, Cal-Poly student who is studying to become a vet and works at Stenner Creek, saw Youk on Petfinders and adopted him yesterday. Usually I don’t like to adopt to students, but she was very responsible, her grandmother is home all day (they also have a Corgi for Youk to play with and they got along very well) – she can take Youk to some of her classes…and the owners met her, the grandmother, the Corgi, and felt very good about the adoption. (Youk was also neutered before he was adopted.)

Annie
Update on Annie 6/9/008
More about Annie... She is settling in quite nicely. She potty trained very quickly. Twice a day I take her for a run with my bicycle...walking didn't use up enough of her energy. She is quite mellow now and in very good shape! Everyone stops to say Hi to her when we are out. She is so loveable and friendly. Her personality is really blossoming. I have fallen in love with her...she will be with me for the rest of her life. She starts school next week! I will keep you posted.
Lynne Stanton
5/31/08 - Annie - I met Annie’s adopter (Lynne) at Creekside Kennels today – liked her VERY much. She’s familiar with rescue…knows Annie’s background, knows obedience training. Single woman, no other dogs, cats, or kids. She works 5 minutes from where she lives, so she will be able to keep tabs on Annie in her new home while Annie gets comfortable. WONDERFUL woman! And, as she said, she is committed.

Daphne
5/25/08 - Daphne was adopted today by a wonderful man who lives in Santa Barbara . He had rescued a rottie girl from SB about 8 years ago – she was the same age as Daphne when he adopted her – unfortunately, she was put down a couple of weeks ago due to bone cancer.
Woody (Daphne’s new owner) is THRILLED to have her. And I’m THRILLED that she found such a great home!

5/21/08 - Charlie found a GREAT home in Shell Beach

5/18/08 - Rebel (the 1 year old Standard poodle) was adopted

5/18/08 - Eli and Roxy were adopted together!!!

Nacho
5/1/08 - Nacho – went to a local family with a 3 year old (they were aware that Nacho could be puppyish around a toddler, but they were fine with that and will continue to take him to training classes).

Jazz (aka Gigi)
5/6/08 - Update on Jazz (aka Gigi)
Hi Deborah,
Oh my gosh, she is so sweet and so smart! I am pretty sure she is a keeper!! - Although Roxy wanted absolutely nothing to do with her yesterday, first thing this morning Roxy was looking for her. Roxy is warming up nicely as she is acutally starting to play a liittle, but still lets GG (AKA known as Jasmine, jazzy, or jazz) know who's the boss. -LOL - It is nice to be able to separate then periodically so Roxy has her space - So far is is working out perfectly. Jazz backs off when Roxy growls.
Bryan (my son) played fetch with Jazz for like a 1/2 hour and already taught her how to bring it back. She is going to be so trainable, she listens so well (for a pupper)
Nancy
4/14/08 - Gigi (1 ½ yr old Rhodesian mix) has found a great home!!! The family has 2 boys – 12 and 14. CG will be the 14 year old’s dog – and he was sooooo very excited, and he has trained other dogs – obviously a very sweet animal loving boy! They live on acreage – and their in-laws live next to them on 140 acres – with other dogs, etc….I think CG has found her heaven.

Coco
4/14/08 - Coco (6 yr old Bichon/poodle mix) went to live in the Brentwood area in Los Angeles . I’m sure she’ll have tons of new trendy clothes to fit in with her new lifestyle (will probably outfit Paris ’ dogs!).

Koma
5/1/08 - Koma – Samoyed – blind, 2 years - a Samoyed rescue in northern CA will be taking her – we’re working on transport and an eye exam before she goes.

Maggie
5/1/08 - KJ, who has been fostering Maggie for a couple months, has decided to adopt her. She’s getting along well with KJ’s other adopted/rescue dogs, and she doesn’t want to see Maggie go through any more changes. YEAH KJ!!! Thank you so much for taking her into your pack!!! (and heart)

Bon Bon
5/1/08 - BonBon – poodle/bichon X - adopted by a family up in Paso with another female dog of the (approximate) same breed.

April and May adoptions - Rosie and Gigi

3/9/08 - Lucy & Ricky were adopted this weekend (They are now Lucy & Desi). Grier’s friend and his daughter drove down from Pacifica (near SF) this weekend to adopt them.

Scooter
3\9\08 - SCOOTER HAS FOUND A HOME!!!! After 10 months in foster care, he’s finally with a family who adores him. They say he just “melded” into their family pretty quickly. All I can hope for is that Scooter doesn’t screw up and try to escape – that’s really the only failing he has. But the mom is stay-at-home, with 2 small kids – so I have my hopes very high that this is the one!

2/16/08 - Chloe and Bella have both been adopted!!!

Roxie
1/28/08 - Roxie went to a wonderful man who lives in Goleta. She's getting along well with his other dog and will get to go to work wih him, too.

1/21/08 - Ascha was adopted

Duke
1/21/2008 - Duke is doing great in his new home in Walnut Creek. The wonam is totally in love. Duke LOVES to go jogging with her.

1/19/08 - Puppy was adopted

1/19/08 - About a year+ ago, we placed a six month old American Bulldog (Indy) with a wonderful young man who works at the YMCA camp in Big Bear. He has continued to send us pics of Indy – and they are so great! Wanted to share them with you. Just goes to show what a loving, responsible home can do with a bully breed! Deborah
